FINNART UNDER 19S   3   V   3    GLASGOW JUNIORS

The new chapter in Finnarts history got off to a steady start yesterday with a 3-3 draw at The Healthy Living Centre. The managers were impressed with the turnout they got as 19 players turned up for the game and they also had to turn a few lads away. The weather was always going to take its toll on the lads and it did as the game progressed but the rolling substitutions helped the team.

Finnart got off to a good start and had the early play with Darren Miller pulling the strings in midfield. The juniors got into the game and put the home defence under pressure but they held out. Finnart took the lead through Ryan Reilly after a great cross from the right. Finnart were to take the lead on three occasions but couldnt hold out. Into the second half and with the score now 1-1, Darren Miller scored with a penalty after a hand ball by a juniors defender. Glasgow Juniors were to equalise again before a storming run and thundering finish from Ryan Reilly for a debut double gave the home side the lead again. But again Finnart couldnt hold out and the tricky no.7 for the Juniors completed his hat trick. Final score 3-3.

A good impressive start for the Under 19s with more positives than negatives. The onlooking seniors manager Phil Blair and Under21s manager William "charles" Faulds were also impressed of the new teams efforts. Great response and commitment shown by the lads so far and lets hope it continues. We all know we have a lot to learn and if they stay keen and willing to learn then the future looks good for the 19s and for Finnart.

Well done and thank you to the managers and players of  Glasgow Juniors. We look forward to future games between our clubs.

MON THE STAR

17s Become 19S !!

After  re - assessing the ages, capabilities, and opportunities for our new proposed Under 17s team , we have decided to enter our team into an Under 19s set up. As mentioned before on this site the response was really good for the team but once we obtained details from all the players interested there was a majority of players just outwith the age limitation for an under 17 team. This will allow us to look out for more players at this older age group and we have already made a few additions to the squad since this decision was made 48hrs ago.

TOBY JUG JOINS UP

In a week that seen the experienced John Carmichael join the under 21 set up, we are happy to announce that the now new under19s have added another great coach to their set up. John Flannigan,( people will know him as "TOBY") has joined up with Jamie and Danny with immediate effect and is a great addition to Finnart. Toby brings great coaching experience to the club and with his and Dannys coaching knowledge the lads will benefit greatly.

All at Finnart would again like to welcome the great additions this week , John Carmichael and John Flannigan. We are sure you will play your part in the future success that comes to our club.

MON THE STAR

NEW MANAGER FOR 21S

Finnart are pleased to announce some great additions to our ever expanding sports club. With immediate effect, John Carmichael will now be working alongside Chixy with the under 21s. This is a great coup for the club as John brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our set up which can only be a benefit to the under 21s. This move came about after Danny Charters decided to move on to pastures new. The club would like to take this opportunity to thank Danny for his hard work last season.

UNDER 17S TRIALS A SUCCESS

Over the past month we have been holding trials for an under17s team and would like to announce that these trials have been a success. This team will be managed by Jamie McGowan and Danny Taylor who will bring a great knowledge of football to the team and the lads will certainly benefit from having a manager with Dannys coaching experience. We are close to finalising a league for the team to play in and we will post detials on the site when this has been done. The team have arranged their first friendly for this Sunday, 13th July at The Healthy Living Centre against Glasgow Juniors, 2pm kick off. Get yourself along and show your support for the new boys.

"THAT'S WHY WERE CHAMPIONS"

FINNART  3  V  2  SWINTON

LEAGUE CHAMPIONS 2007/8

FINNART STAR AFC

If we've said it once we've said it a thousand times...We just dont know when we're beat! Again yesterday the never say die attitude was called upon as Finnart went down 2-1 to Swinton and the lads dug deep and battled to get their deserved victory.

Swinton went into this game only needing 1 point to claim the league title in their first season in the Carluke and District league but they were never going to play for the point and set out to get the three so Finnart had to meet this head on and get the victory.

The game started brightly for the home side and an early chance went begging for Brian Smith when he was put through on goal but maybe it came to early for him as he failed to find the net. Finnart put most pressure on in the first half and Swinton never really threatened and the pressure was to pay off when Danny Taylor toe poked home from close range. And the Finnart fans enjoyed the moment.

Half time 1-0

Swinton came out flying in the second half knowing they had to get themselves back into it and they got back into it in style when Scott McEwan , who had a great game, was caught sleeping by a ball over the top and Gary Espiner rifled a great strike home from the edge of the box. Swinton soon made it 2-1 when somehow the asst referee failed to see that Halliday was yards offside as he turn and ran towards goal to coolly slot home. Swinton Fans went crazy in celebration as the Finnart fans went crazy with the ref's!

Finnart made 2 changes and changed shape from a 4-3-3 to a 4-4-2. Finnart knew they had to fight and scrap for every ball now and thats what they done. They drew level in controversial fashion when a ball into the box caused mayhem and the ball appeared to roll down Ally Rushford's arm and into the net but the ref's never seen it and let the goal stand. Now it was Swinton players and fans turn to go crazy with the officials. This gave an added edge to Finnart and they soon went 3-2 up when a great delivery into the box was met by Stuart McNally who's header found the far side giving the keeper no chance. Swinton pushed for the equaliser and should have had an opportunity from the spot with minutes to go when they were denied a penalty that everyone watching thought was off the stonewall variety, but again the officials never gave it. Let off for Finnart! But we'll take it!

Final whistle blows and the players , managers and support go crazy as Finnart make it 3 titles on the trot in the Carluke and District league. Credit to Swinton who have played great this season and scored goals for fun. Still to hear where they will play next season but we would like to wish them all the best for the future, wherever you may play. They have been a great addition to the league this year.

But again the heart and character shown by Finnart was outstanding. Yes we got lucky with some decisions today as did Swinton with their second goal but thats football. And its down to the heart and character shown by the players to make you champions.

FINNART TOURNAMENTS

Tonight seen the first annual Finnart Soccer Sevens Tournament and the second Finnart under 13s tournament take place at Glasgow Green. Both events were a great success with 6 teams taking part in the Soccer Sevens and 8 teams taking part in the under 13s. Finnart would like to say a big thank you to COCA~ COLA for their sponsor of the event and providing some refreshments for the players of the teams. For more photos just click on the soccer 7s tournament link on the navigation bar,

Here is how things went;

Under 13s

GROUP A- Finnart, EK Burgh, Westwood, West ham; This section seen Finnart and current holders EK Burgh progress to the semi finals.

GROUP B- Claremont, SYCP, Easthall, Shawfield; This section seen Easthall and Shawfield progress to the semi finals.

In the semi finals Finnart beat Easthall 1-0 and EK Burgh beat Shawfield 2-0.

This left the Holders EK Burgh play the hosts Finnart in the final. In the group stages the holders beat Finnart by 1 goal to nil so Finnart looked for revenge but it was'nt to be as EK Burgh ran out easy 4-0 winners.

Big well done to EK Burgh on retaining the trophy.

GEORGE REDMOND WITH WINNERS EK BURGH

The soccer sevens tournament was a league of 6 teams with the top 2 meeting in the final. There was an incredible 60 goals in the games for the crowd to enjoy. The teams taking part were; Finnart A and B, Dennistoun A and B, Broomhill, and Viewpark. After each team played against each other once the top 2 positions were filled with Viewpark and Dennistoun (A). The final was close but the eventual winners were Dennistoun, winning 1-0.

Big well done to Dennistoun on winning the trophy

GEORGE REDMOND WITH WINNERS DENNISTOUN

All the managers and commitee would like to sat a BIG thank you to all the teams for taking part in this great event and hope to see you all next year.

TUES 29TH APRIL

6.30PM KICK OFF

CUP GLORY TO HORROR STORY

ALBION THISTLE  5  V  0  FINNART !!

This game was straight from the Hammer House of Horrors for Finnart after one of their biggest defeats for many a year. After last weeks exploits in Dundee and reaching their third Scottish Cup Final in a row, they came back to Earth with a bang.

As Finnart seen in the first tie, Albion were going to be well up for this especially as they felt aggrieved that the game wasnt played to a finish on the night. But they continued were they left off and had a blistering first half leading 4-0 at half time. The first half also seen Finnart be reduced to 10 men when Stephen Barnes was showing red. Albion added one more goal in the second half.

Big well done to Albion Thistle for a battling performance who deserved such a victory. All at Finnart would like to wish them all the best for the next rounds of the cup and for the remainder of the league campaign. Good group of lads who battle for their club.

As for our team, well where do you start? Some people have made it easier for Manager Phil Blair to think ahead to the final of the Scottish and about his starting line up. As he thinks about each player, he'll be thinking along these lines,

Does he REALLY want to play for Fnnart or does he just want some glory because were in another final??

Does he REALLY want to play for Finnart or just wake up drunk on a Sunday and then see if he can be bothered going??

Well these people need to ask themselves the same question, and do you? Do you really want to play for us?? You are letting your managers and your team mates down by selecting what games you can be bothered turning up for. To go from 18 players for the semi final of the Scottish to 12 players, and thats including the drunk ones, for a game that was important for the club is EMBARRASSING.

We are SCOTTISH CHAMPIONS. what more encouragement should you need to play for us??

LEAGUE CUP

REPLAY

ALBION THISTLE  V  FINNART

Finnart face the 1st divsion leaders in a replay of the cup tie they played last week. The game was level after 90 mins and was supposed to be played to a finish but due to the darkness, the Ref had no choice but to finish after the 90. This upset the home side who had just equalised late on and had their tails up. But the official had no choice really.

No doubts Albion will be just as fired up for this game and will make it hard for Finnart. The game will be played at the same midden of a pitch that they took us to last week, but we just need to adapt to it and be ready for the battle.

Players to meet at The Scotsman at 10.15am

Finnart star are 90minutes away from their third Scottish Cup Final in a row. On Sunday they face Dundee social club at Dundee North End juniors park, and it promises to be a tough tie for the holders as the Dundee side are currently unbeaten in their league campaign and by all accounts are a good footballing side. The 'Social' have never reached this stage of the competition and will be eager to reach the final in front of a 'home' support. Credit is due to most of the local Dundee teams who will be at the game on Sunday to lend their support. It should be a noisy occasion!!

All the best to  'The Social' for Sunday and lets hope its a good game and also a good advertisement for the game.

FINNART THROUGH TO QUARTERS

Finnart went through to the Scottish Cup quarter finals were they will face LBC who beat Fourways 4-2 today. Finnart proved to strong for Station Buffet at The Green today as they beat them 3-0. Alan Templeton scored twice and Man of the Match Brian Smith got the other. See  Scottish cup match reports for more details.

FINNART PROCEED TO NEXT ROUND

FINNART will face Station Buffet this Sunday,17th Feb at Glasgow Green after a hard fought game through in Edinburgh. Although they didnt play to well , they came away with a 3-1 victory against Crosskeys, who obviously thought the best way to beat Finnart was to kick them off the pitch! But Finnart prevailed and move into the last 16. Station Buffet have had some good results and Finnart played them on their way to the final 2 years ago when they were known as FC Sally. We beat them 2-0 at the Green that year and heres hoping we have a similar result. The winners of this tie will then have a home tie versus either LBC from Edinburgh or Fourways from Ayrshire.

As of last weekend , the teams we could possibly face were sitting in the following positions in their leagues;

Station Buffet have played 12 won 11 lost 1 and currently sit top of their league.

Fourways details are not much, the safa website states they have played 4 and won them all, but this looks like it hasnt been updated. I will post more details if i find out more.

LBC, from Edinburgh are currently sitting third, played 7 won 4 lost 3, but again this was last updated before xmas. Again i will post more if i find out more.

PRE SEASON FRIENDLY

SUN 15TH JULY

WINDY HA  1   V  2  FINNART

at SALTCOATS

FINNART got their pre season off to a winning start with a comfortable win down in sunny Saltcoats. The fixture has become an annual event for the 2 sides over the past few seasons and usually turns out to be a good day out for the Finnart boys. The fixture gave Phil the chance to give a few new boys a run out and they all did very well. Finnart started brightly and played some good football. They took the lead when 'Temp' broke down the right and delivered a pinpoint ball right on to Danny Taylor's head and he nodded home. Before the break Finnart were to go to up when a great long ball from Philip Blair sent 'Temp' clear on the keeper who scored with a 'MESSI' like finish, chipping him from the edge of the box.

The second half seen Finnart create some more chances until they went down to 10 men after a clash in the middle of the park with a player from each team. The sending off gave the home side a lift . They began to have more of the ball without ever troubling Lennox in the Finnart goal. Finnart also had some more close chances to extend their lead but it wasnt to be. Windy Ha were to score a late consolation when Finnart went to sleep and they took a quick free kick that ' Fraser' stuck away past Lennox.

Good performance all round lads. Well done.
